Hidden Places in Indonesia: Kaolin Lake in Bangka Belitung

Hola, travellers! Being a traveller ought to have so many recommended places to visit, shouldn't it? Don’t worry if you are still looking for it because the following paragraphs will give you one recommended hidden place in Indonesia for you to visit. 

Indonesia has so many beautiful places that can spoil your eyes and make you surprised if you can see them.  From the fifth big Island in Indonesia, one of them that has those heavens is Sumatra Island. If we explore Bangka Belitung Province which is in Sumatra Island, we can visit Kaolin Lake. Bangka Belitung is not only famous for Laskar Pelangi film location but also has so many beautiful places including Kaolin Place. Kaolin is a rock mass which is then composed of clay material that has a low iron content, and is generally white or slightly whitish. It is a soft white clay that is excavated from the ground. But this lake is not formed naturally. It was formed because in the past, the place was used as a mining site. Because the hole was deep, about 2-10 meters, the place was filled with water and eventually became a beautiful  lake.

Kaolin Lake is different from Kawah Putih Ciwidey, in Bandung, which has a pungent smell of sulfur. It is because this lake has no sulfur. Since it is formed from the former mine, not a crater. The water is also not hot like Kawah Putih Ciwidey. If you visit this lake, you also can play in the water like when you go to the lake usually. People there also usually use the water or even bathe in the lake. The view is amazing. Out of the water, we can see the small hills that were excavated from the mine look beautiful in white. If you go to Kaolin Lake, do not forget to take your camera or your phone because you will regret it if you do not have any photos there. You can go there in the morning or in the afternoon, but not at midday because it is really hot since there are  just a few trees. It is better if you rent a car to go there since there is no public transportation to reach this lake.
