Technology and Education in the era of Generation Z

Generation Z or Gen Z is the generation born after generation Y. Generation Z is often also called i-Generation or the internet generation. Currently in Indonesia around 33% are Generation Z. Generation z and technology cannot be separated, this is because since they were born, generation z is familiar with information technology which makes them very good at using the internet through gadgets and other social media. In an era of rapidly changing world, society is facing big challenges in which people must become strong, broad-minded, skilled, and competitive human resources. For generation z who master technology, learning activities based on technology applications are not an obstacle, even some people feel it as an convenience and make their lives full of new things. With application and internet-based learning, Generation Z has unlimited freedom from time to time, to express, or explore their expertise. A real example that exists in life is during the Covid-19 pandemic where almost all activities are carried out from home, one of which is Learning from Home (LFH) which is entirely based on information technology applications such as Google Classroom and Zoom. Since that change occurred, students' mindsets began to change where the learning received did not feel exciting or fun because of the limited interaction between teachers/lecturers and students, especially if the learning model used was still the old method, namely the lecture method.

When learning activities are carried out from home and information is spread that can be easily accessed by generation z students, generation z students begin to explore their skills, such as opening teaching services, making vlogs, becoming content creators, social media celebrities, opening businesses, etc. From the existing changes, it can be said that the change in the mindset of Generation Z students is largely due to their view of the changing world that they feel and the breadth of information they can access so as to create a change starting from changes in mindset, life, and education patterns required to continue to innovate. Technology, Education, and Generation z when put together can make a tremendous change in all aspects of life
